For me, the most essential thing I learned during this course was that running an ethical business is not only possible in this cruel and money-oriented world, but can also be profitable and can give your life some more meaning. Seeing all the examples of the companies acting unethically, taking a different perspective on their actions and then comparing that with the companies from other students’ presentations got me motivated in case of supporting the ‘whiter ones’.
I also realized how biased I am when it comes to create my own opinion. Sometimes it requires a lot from me to take a different look at someone’s actions or try to feel like managers or CEOs of companies. What’s more, I learned how biased are other people. After years of working for a company they stop thinking about ethical issues, even if they try to do something positive, ethical, their perspective is so disturbed
Now I feel like I am more respectful for other people’s opinions. Making everyone speak in the class is a beautiful idea, I never realized how different and interesting points of view some people have.
About my future career, I really believe this class will have a huge influence on it. Listening to stories about teaching big companies I could see how important it is to be honest with yourself and to be able to look in the mirror every day, not being ashamed of your acts. I don’t want to end up working for a company that doesn’t try to make a world a better place. And when I think about starting something on my own, I realize that it makes me feel good to imagine my company doing CSR, sharing some profits or doing any other activity not focused on maximizing my profit only, but mostly focused on helping other people.
