Maths Homework Year 2016

Autumn 2

All Maths homework this half term will be set on the Mathletics website.  The homework will be tailored for each individual child as a result of assessment of class work and previous homework results.  This may mean that they are asked to repeat an activity to gain extra practice in a particular area of the curriculum before moving onto something a little trickier.  During the next few weeks we will set specific activities that relate directly to the areas of mathematics that the children have set as their class targets.  If there are any questions (including loss of login details) please do not hesitate to come in and talk to us.

Week 7

The children have brought home their login details for the Mathletics program.  We would like them to spend at least half an hour familiarising themselves with the program by playing any games they wish.  We will show them how to search for particular concepts in school this week in readiness for additional Mathletics tasks after half term.

All homework will be uploaded onto this webpage each week. Please click to download the latest homework.

In addition to the homework sheets attached, we would also like children to practise:

Reading (Daily)
Every child has a reading book and reading journal. In Year 5 & 6 we have some very confident, free readers who are now independent. However, we'd still like you to ask questions about the books they are reading to check their understanding. Using inference and deduction are important skills for our children to learn. Some example questions can be found on the right-hand side of this page.

Mathematics (Weekly)
Children should be learning their time tables at home. We use Times Tables Olympics to motivate and enthuse children.

Finalist – 2s, 5s, 10s
Bronze – 2s, 3s, 4s, 5s, 10s
Silver – 6s, 11s
Gold – 7s, 8s, 9s, 12s
European Champion – All (60 mixed questions)
Olympic Champion – All (100 mixed questions)

Every child has access to Mathletics which is an online resource to allow children to practise their mathematical skills. You can access the activities using the Mathletics app on PC/Mac, iOS, Android, Windows 10, Chromebooks.

Class teachers will set activities for the children to complete. We are able to monitor whether children have completed the tasks and the scores they acheived. If they didn't score highly, we will intervene to ensure they have a good understanding.

If your child has difficulty in logging on, please ask the class teacher who is able to provide the correct login details and/or reset passwords.

English and Mathematics (Weekly)
Each week your child will be set a piece of English and Maths homework. This will often be linked to their work in class. Please support your child in completing this. Your child will have a purple homework book in which their homework should be completed.
